Named after the iconic characters, Kimberly Reese, Freddie Brooks and Whitley Gilbert of 90’s sitcom A Different World, the Reese|Brooks|Gilbert Collegiate Leadership & Internship Initiative (RBG) focuses on honing the leadership skills, personal and professional development of black college age young women.
About the Fellowship
RBG is a two year fellowship. During the first year, participants begin with a 10-day Black Girl Summer Tour, visiting cities throughout the South and Southeast. Additionally, a limited number of paid summer internships are available for first year participants. The Fall and Spring consist of a series of retreats and workshops that give RBG participants opportunities for experiential learning; sharpening self-awareness and autonomy, building a support network with peers and other professional women; to consider the lives of Black women in communities and cities different from their own and for scholarship of Black feminism and sisterhood. Participants are also assigned a mentor. The second year consists of RBG participants taking what they've learned, harnessing it, and creating positive change in their community with a community project. The program is concluded with a study abroad opportunity for those who successfully complete the fellowship.
